Divine Rescue is a volunteer-led charity organisation that supports the homeless, vulnerable people, ex-offenders and substance abuse victims with meals, clothes, hostel referrals, and hospital visits.
Having started on a street bench in Southwark, Divine Rescue provides breakfast, lunch and tea five days a week. On arrival at the centre, clients are offered food, new clothing, and the chance to talk to a Keyworker.
They also provide outreach in the Borough of Southwark and the surrounding areas. Last year, they supported 36,960 people with food, clothes and advice.
What to expect:
9.00am to 10.00 am helping serve breakfast and interaction with clients.
10.30am to 12.30pm Activities (This will depend on the needs for the day, but will include)
- Outreach on the streets with an experienced Outreach worker
- Time spent promoting the charity on social media.
- Welcoming clients
- Chatting, playing games
- Sorting clothing donations and helping clients select items.
- General housekeeping.
10.30 to 12.30 Helping prepare lunch (times depend on days menu)
1pm to 2pm Serving Lunch
2pm to 3.30pm Activities and interaction (possibly a cold tea at 3pm depending on service user numbers). Depending on client attendance, they day may finish at 2.30pm
Underground: Elephant & Castle (Northern and Bakerloo Lines)
Buses: 343 from stop R (from Elephant & Castle) towards New Cross Gate. Get off at Alsace Road, then a 3-minute walk.
