Card Aid Shop Volunteers Needed

Card Aid is a scheme run by the Charities Advisory Trust. Each year the Trust sets up Christmas card shops all over London to raise funds for over 300 charities. Unlike many commercial companies, where as little as 2% of the card price goes to charity, 100% of the profits made on Card Aid sales go to charitable causes.

The Eastcheap Card Aid shop near Monument will be opening from the 24th of October until Christmas and is seeking volunteers to help with its day to day running. Typical tasks include serving customers, arranging and pricing stock, operating the till, and helping to publicise this wonderful cause. They have a very friendly team at Card Aid and hope this opportunity will not only be rewarding but a lot of fun too!

Generally Card Aid asks volunteers to make a regular commitment (e.g. weekly or fortnightly) of a minimum 3 hour shift. However there is a degree of flexibility so even if you are interested but cannot make a regular commitment do still get in touch. Note that this is a weekday opportunity as the shop's opening hours are Monday to Friday, 11a m til 4.30 pm. To volunteer or simply find out more please contact Florence Ackland (Card Aid Shop Manager) at florence.ackland@gmail.com.

Fundraising Development Volunteer Needed

Eaves is a charity which provides high quality services to women who have experienced violence through various support, accommodation and research projects.  They are in need of a fundraising development volunteer to assist with the creation of Eaves' Trust and Statutory Fundraising Strategy, to help raise new income for the charity, to develop and maintain existing relationships with funders, and to assist with promoting the charity externally.  This will involve planning, research, and some database management.

Ideally, the volunteer would be able to commit to 2 or 3 days a week for a minimum of 3 months.  Eaves welcomes all applicants, but competent computer use and some experience of research and fundraising is desirable.  If you would like to volunteer or know of anyone who might be interested please contact venetia.barton@eaveshousing.co.uk as soon as possible.

Silent Disco - World Record Event Stewards Needed

Free to Dance is a fundraising and awareness raising event for the charity Learn Burma.

On the 11-16th October, Ben Hammond (Former teacher and Director of Learn Burma) will attempt to break the world record for the longest time spend dancing (6 days). During that time Free to Dance will also be trying to break the world record for the longest Silent Disco.

The silent disco will take place between the 11th-16th Oct at The Scoop, at More London, near Tower Bridge. Members of the public are invited to come and dance for 4 hours at a silent disco of their choice (there are lots of different dance styles and music to chose from). People can either just pay to attend or get themselves sponsored for their 4 hour dance. All the money raised goes to the charity Learn Burma. Click here to watch a 2 minute video for more information.

Hands on London is helping Free to Dance recruit volunteer stewards between the 9th and 17th October to help make the event an outstanding success. For every 4 hour shift you volunteer, Free to Dance will give you a place at your pick of their brilliant silent disco lineup. Roles are straightforward, supervised and you will get a full induction beforehand. Click here to sign up and bring a warm fuzzy 'I'm making a difference' feeling to your day.

Volunteer Needed: Assistant to Sojourner Resettlement Worker

Eaves is a charity which provides high quality services to women who have experienced violence through various support, accommodation and research projects.  They need a volunteer to assist the Sojoruner Resettlement Worker with her duties.  The Sojourner Resettlement worker prepares Sojourner funded women to live independently in the UK after they have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK and leave our service. She also advocates for them with local authority housing departments and the Job Centre when they make application for benefits and present themselves as homeless in need of housing.
