Volunteering: the most direct way to help your community
Volunteering is very rewarding and benefits all! We encourage you to engage in your local community; you don’t have to be retired or have hours and hours of free time, as even a little bit helps. You can spend your time ‘giving back’ in a way that suits you, from storytelling to children, to revitalising your local park, from playing bingo at an elderly care centre to cooking at a soup kitchen. Our charity partners have lots of opportunities available, so all you have to do is choose the ones that suit you the best.
Our goal at Hands On London is to bring a variety of volunteering opportunities for local charities and community partners to as many busy Londoners as possible, in a flexible and manageable way.
We love to see our volunteers return, but many of the projects do not require you to commit more than a few hours, so your participation is totally tailored to you and the time you have available.
Please see our Events Calendar for examples of our opportunities for individual volunteers. We would be happy to specially arrange a similar event for larger numbers for your organisation or corporate group. If you are interested in setting up a corporate event, please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why become a Hands on London volunteer?
- We have built relationships with a number of London charities and good causes that need your help. They have been chosen by us because of the invaluable work they do; you will help them achieve their goals, which benefits everybody.
- Meet new friends: our projects are group based and you will be volunteering with people who have similar interests.
- Our volunteering opportunities are available to suit your schedule, on weekdays and evenings, as well as at weekends and at various London locations.
- We understand that your time is precious, so you do not have to make a long-term commitment, unless of course you wish to. Your time and help is greatly appreciated.
To become part of the HOL community, all you need to do is:
Click Register at the top of the page and fill out your details.
Before you can sign up to HOL’s volunteer projects you will need to come along to an orientation session. You only need to do this once.
The session lasts about 45 minutes and as well as introducing our mission and aims you will meet up with other volunteers, our charity partners and our wonderful team. You will find out about their roles and we will also show you how to use the website volunteering system and give you the low-down on volunteering opportunities.
Volunteering with Hands On London is free however we kindly suggest a £5 donation from each volunteer at our Orientation session to enable us to continue delivering the service to you and all our worthwhile charity partners.
… and then sign up!
We do ask that you only sign up for those projects you plan to attend so that our charity partners get the most from our volunteer service
We’d love to hear from you, so if you have any questions or want to offer your support, just email us at email@example.com
