The Felix Project is a charity that works with food suppliers and charities to reduce food waste and food poverty. We collect food from supermarkets, wholesalers and other food suppliers – food that is fresh and nutritious but cannot be sold for various reasons. We then deliver that food free of charge to a range of charities across London who provide meals, snacks or food parcels for their clients, who include the elderly, the homeless, those with mental health issues, refugees and asylum seekers and families and children.

We have three main volunteer roles:
Driver – the driver drives the van on delivery and collection runs. The driver also helps with loading/unloading the van, and sorting the food back at the warehouse. To drive our van you need to be 25+ with a full, clean driving licence.

Delivery/Collection Assistant – the collection/delivery assistants accompany the driver on the delivery and collection runs. They phone our charities and suppliers in advance of our arrival, help with loading/unloading the van, and sorting the food back at the warehouse.

Warehouse Assistant – our warehouse assistants help keep the warehouse clean, tidy and organised. They are vital in helping us keep our stock rotated and in good condition – ready to be delivered to our charities.  There will be the additional tasks of recording and weighing stock.

Do I have to be physically fit?
We collect and deliver boxes/crates/sacks of food, so there will be some light lifting involved

How long do you need me for?
Our shifts are approximately 3 hours long (maximum 4 hours)

Drive past ParcelForce (on your right), and the yellow units (also on your right). Turn right after the yellow units, then right again at Unit No.9. We are on your left – Unit 6. Parking spaces: We have two parking spaces by Unit 9. They have blue signs. Please park in one of these spaces. If neither space is available drive round. There is usually room to park outside the warehouse.

Note: Please do not attend any volunteering opportunity listed on this website until you have taken steps to meet with us and become registered with Hands On London. Charities and community groups featured on our events calendar need to know that volunteers are registered and that their identity has been independently verified – they have requested confirmation of this via Hands On London.  If you attend without being registered or approved, it is likely you will be turned away and have a wasted journey.
