Stephens House and Gardens

Stephens House & Gardens is a Grade ll listed house with extensive landscaped gardens, gifted for the use and enjoyment of the people by Henry Charles ‘Inky’ Stephens of the Stephens’ Ink Company.

The garden is large for a one belonging to a house and is laid out in areas including the bog garden, memorial garden, playground, Bothy garden, old water tower etc.

Lots of benches to sit and most seemed to be dedicated to local residents.

Near the entrance is a memorial to Spike Milligan, a famous comedian and writer, seated on a bench which includes scenes from his life such as the cast of the Goons.

Help is need from volunteers this autumn in the garden.

Sunday 16th Sept, 21 Oct and 18th November

Choose a session, either 11.00–13.00 or 14.00–16.00, or do both if you’re really keen!

We meet at the Depot opposite the Playground.  Tools provided

Families are welcome to volunteer together providing parents supervise their own children but maybe not so suitable for under-5s.

Note: Please do not attend any volunteering opportunity listed on this website until you have taken steps to meet with us and become registered with Hands On London. Charities and community groups featured on our events calendar need to know that volunteers are registered and that their identity has been independently verified – they have requested confirmation of this via Hands On London.  If you attend without being registered or approved, it is likely you will be turned away and have a wasted journey.
